Anna travelled to the UK earlier this year with Axel with whom she had formed a really special bond. They went into a wonderful foster home in Hertfordshire where although their great friendship remained we found as their individual confidence grew they could live independent of each other.

During a routine veterinary check it was found that Anna had a cancerous lump with nodules and required urgent surgery. If you visited our Facebook group or this website during this period you will recall we had an appeal for funding her surgery. During this time Axel found his forever home and moved out to start his new life leaving Anna behind.

Anna underwent surgery to remove the cancerous growth which was successful. Since surgery Anna has been doing very well in her foster home and there is much hope for her for her future. Having spoken with the vets we understand that the tumour was successfully removed with clear margins. There is no Lymphovascular invasion- so it has not spread to the lymphatic or vascular systems, the x-rays showed no metastasis or any other sign of cancer growing anywhere else in her body.

It is of course very difficult to say with absolute certainty what the prognosis is going to be, but she does not require any further treatment although she will need to be regularly monitored.
We had a similar case with one of our rescue dogs called Poppy three years ago who had a mammary carcinoma which was successfully removed. Poppy has been doing very well ever since in her adoptive home with absolutely no concerns.
You will now understand why we are looking for a very, very special forever home for our wonderfully gentle and loving Anna. She has been through so much in her life and now we ask you on Anna’s behalf if you can find room in your heart and family home to offer her a place to rest her head!
Anna is negative to both leishmaniasis and Brucella. She is very good with dogs but has not been tested with cats.
Anna is about 6 years old.
I hope you have been inspired to offer Anna a place to rest her head and are interested in providing the warmth and safety of a real loving adoptive home for her? If so please complete our online Adoption/Foster Application Questionnaire form and submit.
Anna is eagerly waiting to hear who his parents are to be!
We are of course available to discuss Anna further with you.
If you cannot foster or home a dog you can support our work by making a small one off donation or regular monthly amount – 100% of all money raised is used to support our rescue work. SOS Italian Setters is a registered charity in England & Wales which is run by volunteers.
