It brings huge smiles to all the volunteers at SOS Italian Setters who work tirelessly to find these wonderful dogs their forever homes. It is with great pleasure we can announce that this true gentleman has found a place to rest his head and paws. He moved in with his new family on 28 February 2024, and will be unpacking his ‘bags’ as I write this heartfelt update. Thank you to all those that helped make this happen, especially his foster parents and Camillo’s new family who recognised what a wonderful boy he is.

Camillo a  gentle affectionate English Setter who was found abandoned in the South of Italy with his chip painfully cut out has been here in the East Midlands for two weeks now.  He is a delight and anyone who meets him will want to take him home to their settee ! We cannot imagine why he was rejected but perhaps because he’d really prefer to sit on your lap and be petted than chase birds. Camillo is about six or seven and weighs in at 16.5 kg so small for a setter as many Italian bred setters are but he happily holds his own in our pack of larger playmates climbing over them to get pole position when tummy rubs are on offer!

When taken out he enjoys running and splashing in water but is content with an hour or so of exercise and we are working on recall which is getting reliable. After a couple of understandable territorial sprays on arrival he is now house trained and sleeps like a log all night. He rarely barks and the only time we have heard a growl is if another pet, cat or dog tries to steal his treats however mostly he ignores the cats so long as they ignore him. He has especially enjoyed being made a fuss of by visiting grandchildren aged from 2 to 10.  If you are looking for a peaceable loyal loving dog then Camillo might be the one for you.

Camillo is negative to Leishmaniasis and Brucella Canis and all other Mediterranean diseases.
