Special appeal for Bluebell who has Leish
We rescued Bluebell in late September from a pound where she had been alone and very ill with leishmaniasis since May. When she arrived the pound wanted to put her to sleep, but slowly she started recovering with some little medication they provided. But it was clear that without full treatment for leish she would certainly die, so SOS Italian Setters took her into our care.
Most dogs we have rescued during the past three-four months have leishmaniasis. We currently have six Setters in our care positive to leish, all have been treated or are being treated. This is extremely costly for a small charity like us, but without us these dogs would die. To take care of them and provide a chance of recovery, they need ongoing veterinary care, many require injections and all require medications.
Once they are fit to travel we do everything we can to find forever homes. One thing they receive from the outset and have never experienced before, is unconditional love and care.
Leish is a cruel, painful killer! With your help we can provide these poor dogs with a wonderful loving future.
Please help us with donations if you can to be able to cover her vet bills.

Bluebell’s blood tests are back. As feared she is leish positive
03 October 2025 – UPDATE
Blood tests are back and as expected
Bluebell is positive to Leishmaniasis. We have started treating her eyes and she is on doxycycline for tick diseases and of course allopurinol. She will soon start the Glucantime injections. Her eyes are already looking much better
but it’s a long road ahead.
I am told she is a very sweet girl, aren’t they all? This is why these dogs are so special… despite the cruelty and the suffering they have endured their kindness and trust are extraordinary.
