Chloe is 2 and she is of course the most playful and sweet dog. She was found as a stray, very ill in Calabria in August 2024. She has been in foster in Kent since March. She is positive to leishmaniasis but she has been treated with Glucantime and she has been taking allopurinol. She is doing so well now! She is compatible with all dogs and she likes cats too… Don’t let leishmaniasis put you off and if unsure please ask for more info and our advice!
If Chloe could tell you her story!
“Hello, I’m Chloe…..
I’m 2 years old, originally from Southern Italy. I was found in the woods in Calabria, very sick and injured….. but this is belonging to the past!
I am now in my foster home in Kent and love every moment of this new life. I have recovered and feel so much healthier and happier than ever before. My foster mum tells me that I am now ready to find my very own family and forever home!
While in Italy I caught leishmaniases – but I am told I responded very well to the treatment, which has reduced it to very low levels and I totally forgot about it. I just need regular blood tests and I take some medication daily but otherwise I live a totally normal life. I play with my foster siblings, I love going on walks where I can set and hunt; I don’t like losing my foster family so I come back when they call me.
I am told I am just lovely to have around ![]()
I am coming with my very own Italian passport. The charity taking care of me will do home checks and my adopter needs to pay an adoption fee. And I come with life-long rescue back up as I am part of the SOS Italian Setters community for the rest of my life.
There are many setters like me in Italy needing urgently support, young and old ones, many are sick like I was… being a hunting breed we are considered like tools, thrown away when not useful anymore… the quicker I find my family the better for the next setters needing a foster home in the UK….
Please help me and all the other miserable setters in Italy…..
Thank you!”
Chloe is now in the UK and available for adoption. She has settled well into her foster home and is learning her new language (English) very-well and is adjusting to life away from kennels. She is looking for a special family to call her own.
When found in the woods of Calabria, she was very unwell, she had a very infected wound, full of mange and very ill with leishmaniasis. She has been treated and she is now doing very well. She is a happy little dog who is a little fearful of men. Although still positive to leishmaniasis she is much much improved after treatment, but will need to continue to take her meds and be tested regularly.
As a leish owner dog there is no problem having a dog with the condition providing a few very simple rules are followed. However, if you wish to offer this little gentle lady a permanent place to rest her head do not worry about leish as SOS Italian Setters are here to assist henceforth!
