Karl is a mature dog who was found in deplorable conditions in a small enclosure where each day was the same as the last. SOS Italian Setters brought Karl into our care. His story is told by a Trustee below.

Karl’s story told by Chiara

“These are the sad, resigned eyes of a dog who has spent 6 years in the enclosure of a pound. He is now 9. A couple of bursting tumours on his front leg and his groin tell us a story of huge suffering in an enclosure where days and nights are always the same, marked by the constant barking of other desperate dogs. When I saw him this afternoon I wanted to cry… I feel very sad for the life wasted, but hopeful for the life that has just started.

Welcome to SOS beautiful boy! We will do everything we can to make you better, feel better at least and let you live the time you have left, loved and cared for.

Please help us support this poor doggie. It will not be easy but we will do everything we can to make him better.

Karl has had some tumours removed, he will need to have at least another surgery to remove the others.

Our poor boy has had a quiet day at the shelter. No more dogs barking 24/7, a tranquil enclosure to finally find some peace and calm. In fact he barked for a few minutes before he settled. He will be seen by our vet tomorrow but he has a few lumps/tumours and ulcers. Let’s hope something can still be done and we can alleviate his suffering… He must be in pain, but he is bright and eating. How can a dog in a pound be reduced to that state? And yet nobody had done anything… It’s just so dreadful 😭 We have called him Karl, named after my wonderful vet in Kew Gardens in London“

In all honesty we do not know if Karl will ever be able to travel to a forever home but we will not, EVER, give up on him!
