Update 08 October. The wonderful and super gentle Ginevra is coming along leaps and bounds! Her confidence is building daily as she continues her journey toward finding a forever home.

Update 28 September 2025. Ginevra has completed her treatment and has been passed fit to travel by our vets in Italy. She will travel to the UK in October where she will be looking for a forever home!

In early July, in Southern Italy SOS Italian Setters we asked to deal with two heart-breaking discoveries, highlighting the plight of abandoned Setters in the region which becomes particularly bad during Summer. This is Ginevra’s story thus far.

We discussed whether to show some of these shocking photographs but decided it was appropriate for many reasons, least of all we want you here prospective family to understand not only what she has been through in her young life but how ‘you’ bring so much joy to her.

In separate incidents, two girls were found in terrible conditions. One, a mere 9-month-old puppy named Ginevra, was rescued from a dire state, her young life already marked by hardship. She was found near Naples.

What we do at SOS Italian Setters is a drop in the ocean, but if there wasn’t even this “drop” dogs like Ginevra would be lost forever. She has already been seen by our vets. We owe our volunteers in Italy a huge thank you for everything they do at the ‘sharp’ end.
